Project description

Problem statement

The existing client website was very static and did not use motion to convey emotion. The client wanted a website that spoke to their brand and made people feel as if they were at the resort while browsing the website.

Proposed solution

Add smooth, carefully curated animations and movement to the new website that conveys a relaxing atmosphere. Make use of parallax movement to show depth and make users feel as if they are seeing the view in real life.

My role

I was the lead frontend developer, responsible for translating the design vision into a smooth, immersive web experience using motion and interaction.

Process & execution

The website was built with NextJS, React Spring for animations, and Contentful as the CMS. Motion was used deliberately. Slow transitions, subtle parallax, and calming interactions, these were used to mirror the feel of a spa and holiday resort rather than a traditional marketing site. I worked closely with the designer and art director to ensure the motion gave the feeling it needed.

Key features

  • Parallax scrolling to create depth and perspective

  • Reduced scroll speed to create relaxed smooth scroll feeling

  • Image scale effects to create sense of focus

  • Horizontal scrolling sections to allow users to view resort landscapes

Outcome

The final site delivers a luxurious, calming experience that reinforces the brand’s positioning and enhances emotional engagement with the resort before visitors even arrive.
